FlexaBoot FAQ

Q.  As a mechanical engineer, why would my firm specify FlexaBoots for return air boots instead of internally lined sheet metal boots like we always have?

A.  FlexaBoot provides multiple advantages:

  1. Acoustically designed and tested.  Sheet metal boots are not.

  2. Costs less than one half to install FlexaBoots compared to sheet metal boots.

  3. No fibrous materials in the air stream.

  4. Flexibility above the ceiling – easily offsets over, under, and around obstacles.

  5. Weight: FlexaBoots weigh 9 lbs. each.  Sheet metal elbows weigh 47 lbs. each.

  6. Strategic positioning – rotate FlexaBoot 360 degrees.

Q.
Can I attach a FlexaBoot to the return grille on the floor and set the entire assembly into ceiling grid?

A.  Yes, FlexaBoot is lightweight and “flexible” – one worker can install FlexaBoot compared to two workers required for sheet metal boots.

Q.
Where can I purchase FlexaBoots?

A.  Click here for additional information.

Q.
How many hangers are required for each FlexaBoot?

A.  Only one hanger per FlexaBoot is required. Sheet metal boots typically require at least three hangers per boot.

Q.
I’m a contractor and I can see FlexaBoot submitted as a Value Engineering alternative. However, will mechanical engineers accept FlexaBoot?

A.  Yes, thousands of FlexaBoots have been accepted and installed through the V.E. process, saving thousands of dollars on numerous projects.

Q.
What sizes of FlexaBoots are available?

A.  FlexaBoots are available in 10” and 16” round. The 10” round is typically used with 24x12 face return grilles. The 16” round is typically used with 24x24 face return grilles.

Q.
What type of return grille works best with FlexaBoot?

A.  The most economical choice is 24x24 grille with either a 16” round neck or 10” round neck. Optional square-to-round adaptors allow FlexaBoot to be used with almost all return grilles with 22x22 and 22x12 necks sizes.

Q.
  How are FlexaBoots shipped?

A.  10” FlexaBoots ship two per carton. 16” FlexaBoots ship two per carton.

Q.
Are FlexaBoots UL listed?

A.  All FlexaBoot components are UL tested and listed.
